Ingredients
Scale
1 package pizza dough (about 16 oz)
1 cup marinara sauce
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup ricotta cheese
1/2 cup cooked Italian sausage, crumbled
1/4 cup sliced pepperoni
1/4 cup diced green bell pepper
1/4 cup diced red onion
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tbsp olive oil
1 egg (for egg wash)
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface into a 12-inch circle.
In a bowl, mix the mozzarella, ricotta, cooked sausage, pepperoni, green bell pepper, red onion, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Spread half of the marinara sauce over one half of the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edge.
Evenly spoon the filling mixture over the sauce.
Fold the dough over to cover the filling and pinch the edges firmly to seal the calzone.
Transfer the calzone to the prepared baking sheet.
Beat the egg and brush it over the top of the calzone for a golden finish.
Cut a few small slits on top to allow steam to escape.
Bake for 18-22 minutes or until the calzone is golden brown and cooked through.
Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving with remaining marinara sauce.
Notes
For a spicy kick, add red pepper flakes to the filling or serve with a side of hot sauce.
