  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, diced
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine sourdough discard, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in milk and vanilla extract until a soft dough forms.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and roll out into a 10×8 inch rectangle.
  6. Brush the dough with melted butter, then sprinkle evenly with cinnamon sugar mixture.
  7. Cut the dough into strips about 1 inch wide.
  8. Twist each strip several times and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
