homemade mozzarella sticks

Crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside, these homemade mozzarella sticks are a delicious snack perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 mozzarella cheese sticks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 1/2 cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Marinara sauce, for dipping

Instructions

  1. Cut each mozzarella stick in half to make 24 pieces.
  2. Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs mixed with milk, and one with breadcrumbs, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  3. Coat each mozzarella piece first in flour, then dip into the egg mixture, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture. For extra crispiness, repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating once more.
  4. Place breaded sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for at least 1 hour.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Carefully fry the mozzarella sticks in batches for 1-2 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. Serve hot with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

For a healthier option, bake the sticks at 425°F (220°C) for 8-10 minutes instead of frying. Serve with a side of ranch or spicy marinara sauce for added flavor.
