lentil burgers

Delicious and wholesome lentil burgers packed with protein and fiber, perfect as a healthy vegetarian alternative for any meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cooked lentils
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 egg (or flax egg for vegan)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil for frying
  • Burger buns and toppings of choice (lettuce, tomato, pickles, etc.)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mash the cooked lentils until mostly smooth but with some texture.
  2. Add breadcrumbs, chopped onion, garlic, soy sauce, smoked paprika, cumin, egg, salt, and pepper.
  3. Mix well to combine all ingredients into a thick batter.
  4. Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.
  5. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  6. Cook patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and firm.
  7. Assemble burgers on buns with desired toppings and serve warm.

Notes

For an extra flavor boost, try adding a teaspoon of chili powder or fresh herbs like parsley to the mixture before cooking.
