Classic Meatloaf

This Classic Meatloaf is a comforting, hearty dish featuring seasoned ground beef baked to perfection and topped with a tangy tomato glaze, perfect for a satisfying family dinner.

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 cup ketchup (for topping)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (for topping)
  • 1 tablespoon mustard (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, minced garlic, eggs, 1/4 cup ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and dried thyme. Mix until just combined.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a loaf pan and shape it into a loaf.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together 1/2 cup ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard. Spread glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 60-70 minutes, or until the meatloaf is cooked through and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  6. Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, serve with mashed potatoes and steamed green beans, or try mixing in some cooked bacon bits or shredded cheese into the meat mixture.
